The Hamburg-Altona train station is a station for long-distance traffic as well as regional and S-Bahn traffic in Hamburg and next to that Hamburg Central Station and the Hamburg Dammtor train station one of three important long-distance rail stops in northern Germany.

Free WiFi is available in the entire station area, but the connection is better guaranteed indoors than on the platforms.

  • The Hamburg Airport can be reached with the S1 line (direction Airport / Poppenbüttel) without having to change trains.

The long-distance train FlixTrain in Hamburg-Altona station

The train station is through ICE and IC/EC trains as well as the Night trainNightjet (NJ) of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), which can also be used for journeys within Germany, and the station is served by the private long-distance train FlixTrain and the private night train FlixNight approached, both of which by the Flixmobility GmbH operate.

Regional traffic

The Altona station is served by the regional express RE 6 approached, which on the railway line Marching track operates between Hamburg-Altona, Husum, Niebüll and Westerland on Sylt as well as through the regional train line RB 71, which runs between Altona, Elmshorn and Itzehoe train stations.

The trains of the S-Bahn Hamburg depart in a tunnel station, which, unlike the platforms for regional and long-distance traffic, has through tracks, so that no change of direction is necessary. The following S-Bahn lines operate at Hamburg-Altona station:

Lines S1, S2 and S3 run through the Citytunnel Hamburg, lines S11 and S31 over the Lombard bridge

Other traffic

Hamburg Altona station is not connected to the subway network, but is served by numerous city and regional bus routes operated by Hamburger Hochbahn AG (HHA) and the Hamburg-Holstein transport company (VHH).
