Background

Since ancient times inhabited by Celtic and Slavic populations, the southern part of the region has been made a Roman province with the name of Noricus. It was then included in the Carolingian Eastern March of the 9th century, and assumed the first state structure under the Babenberg dynasty, which made the old brand a powerful border duchy. Archduchy, making the region of Lower Austria an important European cultural center. The Bundesland of Lower Austria was established with the creation of the First Austrian Republic, created following the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which was then transformed into the Reichsgau Niederdonau at the time of Nazism.During the Second World War, the whole region was bombed by the allies and rebuilt with the help of American power. The current structure of this Bundesland dates back to the proclamation of the Second Austrian Republic in 1955.
