Other destinations

  • Kempten (Allgäu): It is a small city surrounded by mountains, forests and rivers. Ideal for hiking excursions and other activities related to risk sports (eg rafting, canyoning, kayaking, horseback riding, etc.) and in winter seasons it is ideal for practicing all snow sports (skiing, snowboarding , slalom, sled, etc.)
  • Füssen and Schangau: They are 2 beautiful towns located very close to each other, and a few minutes from the Austrian border. The main tourist attraction is Neushwanstein Castle (one of the candidates to be the new wonder of the world, although it was not classified) which receives a multitude of visits every year. There is also the less famous Hohenschangau Castle. You can also visit the Linderhof Palace, 40 kilometers from Füssen, passing the border with Austria. The beauty of this place is breathtaking. Getting there is very easy, there are train and coach services from Munich (the nearest big city), approximately 90 minutes of travel. Or you can also do "the romantic route", from Würzburg to Füssen, which will take you through beautiful medieval villages. If you do this route, the closest airport to Würzburg is Frankfurt.

To do this route it is advisable to rent a car, as you will be able to visit many places that are worth seeing, and that are not included in any regular tour or circuit by a travel agency. In addition, driving in Germany is very easy, you will find excellent highways with very good signage and car rental prices are not that expensive when you consider the costly German rail system.

  • Lake Constance (Bodensee): around this lake, located between Germany, Swiss Y Austria There are a multitude of small cities that are worth visiting.

Travel

German motorways are very good and they are all free. Driving becomes really easy. They are wide, with good asphalt, well signposted, with rest areas and toilets. It is often said that there is no speed limit on German motorways. This is only partly true as many sections are expressly limited in speed. During weekends and long weekends there are often traffic jams. It is also worth knowing that there are speed controls on all highways and that they are generally not signposted. If the speed limits are not respected, the fine is assured.

Circulation within cities is also very easy, and is much more relaxed than in other countries. All traffic signals, especially zebra crossings, are strictly observed, yielding to pedestrians. Within cities, there are also many radars, and it is worth paying attention. Parking in large urban centers can be difficult.
