The settlement of the Berching area can be traced back to the Neolithic Age. Pirihinga is mentioned for the first time in a document from the year 883. From the federal highway 9 Nuremberg-Munich becomes Berching over the exits Hilpoltstein or Greding reached (19 or 13 km). Berching itself is on the federal highway 299 from Neumarkt to Beilngries. This is reached from the federal highway 3 at the Neumarkt exit.

Berching has a landing site on Main-Danube Canal. On the abandoned Ludwig Canal there are still excursion traffic in places.
