background
The oldest traces of settlement in the region date from around 10,000 to 6000 BC. Because of the name ending -ing, a Bavarian settlement in the 8th century AD is suspected. The year of the first documentary mention is 1091.

In the Middle Ages, Greding belonged to the prince-bishops of Eichstätt from 1311 and was the official, court and administrative seat. In 1806 and as a result of the secularization, Greding came with the prince-bishopric and Franconia to Bavaria.
Tourism in the village began in 1936 with the opening of the autobahn, which made the Altmühltal region easily accessible and Greding an important gateway with the autobahn exit.

The tower is the oldest part of the church and dates from the late 11th century and was part of a previous building. Today's basilica was built in the middle of the 12th century as part of the city fortifications and, as a parish church, is the largest Romanesque building of the Eichstätt monastery.
- City parish church St. Jacob, built between 1725 and 1727.
- Prince-Bishop's hunting lodge on the market square, built from 1685 - 1697 by the court architect Jacob Engel. Former seat of the lordly administrative officials and episcopal summer residence. Today the building is privately owned (antique shop) and not open to the public.

- During the new construction of the Nuremberg-Munich ICE route from 1995 to 2006 and in the section between Greding and Großhöbing, numerous finds from archaeological excavations were found. Locations were a multitude of settlements and necropolises from almost all prehistoric and early medieval periods.
