Geographical notes
Located inUpper Valsugana, is 9 km from Pergine Valsugana, 18 from Borgo Valsugana, 21 from Trento and 32 from Rovereto.
Background
Inhabited by populations of Euganei and Illyrians, the territory was then Romanized like the whole region. The first documentary citations of the town date back to the 12th century. The development of the town in the thirteenth century led the lords of Caldonazzo to build a castle, with the permission of the bishop of Trento to which the territory was subject.The castle was destroyed in 1256 during the assault brought by Ezzelino da Romano to Trento.Over the centuries the town followed the events of Trento and the Trentino until the meeting with the new Kingdom of Italy.

- 1 Church of San Valentino. Mentioned as early as the 12th century, it seems to have been built before 1259, as evidenced by a document of the Bishop of the diocese of Trento Egnone. Under one step you can read the date of 1289.
- It was restored several times over time and was guarded by a hermit who lived in the adjoining house.
- Its small bell tower is inserted inside the tympanum, while the bell is protected by railings from 1700. Below the main portal and the facades, the terracotta arches of the portico dating back to 1544 have been brought to light. apse was built on the outcropping rock, and has a three lunettes structure. The ceiling frescoes represent the Madonna with Child Jesus, San Valentino and San Rocco.
- In the presbytery there are the coats of arms of the Trapp-Matsch family of 1528, of the dynasty of the Caldonazzo counts. The wooden altar is the work of Minati da Pergine. The altarpiece representing San Valentino and San Carlo Borromeo was painted by Gioacchino Antonio Mayr in 1759.

- 2 Caldonazzo lake (Caldonazzosee or Gallnötschsee). It is the largest of the lakes entirely within the Trentino borders and also the only one where you can practice water skiing, canoeing and other water sports. There are bathing establishments and free beaches. For the year 2014, Lake Caldonazzo obtained the prestigious international Blue Flag award from the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education), thanks to the clear waters, the beach and the eco-sustainable tourism-environmental management policies.
Events and parties
Numerous events take place on Lake Caldonazzo, especially in the summer.
- Palio dei Draghi (Dragon Boat). The most important event, a competition between boats pushed by numerous rowers. The boats vaguely resemble the silhouette of dragons, hence the name of the race.
- Facoltiadi.
In the month of May. The University Sports Center of the University of Trento organizes the Faculty Games every year. The disciplines provided are beach volleyball, soapy football, and a minor version of the Dragon Boat.

The last weekend of August. The national final for young canoeists has been held for years now.
