Drohiczyn is a historical place in the polish Voivodeship Podlaskie not far from the border to Mazovia to the Bug. The city is located in the historical region Podlaskie in the Drohiczyner Land on the Drohiczyner plateau. The city is the historical capital of Podlasie and an important trading center between Mazovia and the Kievan Rus since the early High Middle Ages. The rich trading city was long fought over between Poland, Lithuania and Russia. In the late Baroque and Rococo periods, the townscape was created by order of the bishop and the numerous monasteries of Giacomo Fontana embossed.
