Dukla is an old trading town on the river Jasiołka in the voivodeship Subcarpathian in the southeast Poland at the foot of the Lower Beskids, not far from the pass Duklapass.
background
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1355. In 1414 the Saint John of Dukla born whose relics are in Dukla, which makes the place a pilgrimage center in south-eastern Poland. Strategically located at the Duklapass, an easy transition through the Carpathian Arch to Hungary, trade developed in the place. In 1540 Dukla received further trading privileges. In the course of the First Partition of Poland, it came to the Habsburgs. It became Polish again after the First and Second World Wars. During the First and Second World Wars, battles between Russian and Austro-Hungarian or German units took place on the Duklapass. There are numerous military cemeteries around the city. The Jewish shtetl was also destroyed during World War II.

By plane
The international Krakow Airport located northwest and the international Rzeszów Airport north of Dukla.
By train
Biecz is by train from Krakow reachable. The place is south of the railway line Nowy Sącz-Sanok, but does not have a train station itself, so the last part of the way has to be covered by bus.
By bus
Regional buses go to Rzeszów and the surrounding towns.

The connecting road leads to Krosno or to Slovakia. The country road DK 28 leads north past the place.

The European long-distance footpath E8 leads through the place.
