Toponymy
The origin of the name "Durbuy »Could come from the Celtic compound duro-bodion which means "the dwelling near the fortress".
« Tohogne », Which at VIIe century, is the primitive parish while the lords reside in Durbuy, finds its origin in the Latin name Theodonia meaning "dwelling of Theodon".
« Bomal », According to linguists, would come either from baut-mala, "Court of warriors", either of bodumala, "The hill of crows". Thus, we find: Boomela (1104), Bomella (1109), Bumalia (1252), Boumalle (1253) and, in Walloon, Boumål.
Story
For nearly a century, it was the seat of the county of Durbuy before it was incorporated into the county of Luxembourg in XIIe century

- 8 St. Nicholas Church rue des Récollets –
Begun in 1630 and consecrated in 1643, the current Saint-Nicolas de Durbuy church was originally the church of the Récollets convent in Durbuy, founded in 1629 by Laurent le Jeune, canon then dean of the collegiate church of Notre-Dame de Maastricht. The Récollets convent was abolished in 1796, the church became a parish in 1810 and took the title of Saint-Nicolas. With nearly 40 meters long, the Récollets church was the largest place of worship in the land of Durbuy until the end of the XVIIIe century. It houses the baptismal font from XVIe century and adjoins the former Récollets convent.
- 9 Durbuy Castle rue du Comte Théodule d'Ursel – Rebuilt in 1731 on the ruins of the old castle, the current building is the result of a reconstruction in XVIIIe century and then a major restoration carried out in 1880-1882 by the Countess of Ursel.
- 10 Wheat hall (Spanish house) rue du Comte Théodule d'Ursel –
(1976) Mentioned in 1380, the hall dates in its current state from XVIe century (circa 1530-1540). Among a homogeneous and picturesque set of old houses, the hall stands out for its half-timbered gable. It testifies to the prosperity of Durbuy at that time, thanks to the development of metallurgy. Both a covered market and a magistrate's house, it fulfilled the role of "communal house": the High Court, the feudal court and the court of echevinage of Durbuy met there. The current building (listed on 23/11/1976) is superbly restored and hosts cultural exhibitions.

(go through the park of the Place de la Pierre, the entrance is on the left of the sanctuary). This three-aisled church with a basilica plan is remarkable for its size. Built with very local materials: sandstone, limestone and pudding, it is also the result of a complex evolution. On elements dating back to the Romanesque period of XIe and XIIe centuries - including the massive tower, the central nave and the choir - the construction was brought up to date in the XVIIe and XVIIIe centuries then strongly restored in the "archaeological" taste at the beginning of the XXe century.
