Entry requirements

A passport is required for entry into the country. The visa is only required for stays longer than three months.

By plane

Four times a week Iberia flies from Madrid in El Salvador and with an intermediate stopover in Guatemala City.

  • Ruta de las Flores a short itinerary that starts from the center of 1 Ahuachapán and winds through pretty villages at the foot of the Apaneca Cordillera, between woods and waterfalls. It takes place preferably in May during the flowering period.

  • Pupusa - A typical dish based on a mixture of corn flour or rice, filled with red beans first boiled then ground, chicharon and local cheese. The dough is stuffed and then cooked on a plate greased with sunflower oil. They are served hot with a side of cabbage marinated in vinegar, onion and spiced tomato sauce.
