Helmstadt-Bargen is a municipality in the Rhein-Neckar district, it is located in the northeast of the Kraichgau at the transition to Little Odenwald.

Helmstadt-Bargen was created around 1975 through the merger of the three formerly independent communities of Helmstadt, Flinsbach and Bargen. The three places are in the Wollenbachtal, the Hüffenhardt arises through the Bad Rappenauer The Wollenberg district flows and finally flows into the Schwarzbach near Helmstadt.
Helmstadt is the largest district, it was first mentioned in a document in 782, belonged to the Electoral Palatinate until 1803 and then fell to the Grand Duchy of Baden. The Helmstadt moated castle was destroyed by the French in the 17th century, and today there is a manor in its place.
Bargen was mentioned in a document in 792, finds from the time of the Merovingians attest to an older settlement history. The place has around 1000 inhabitants.
Flinsbach is the smallest district with 550 inhabitants, it also belonged to the Electoral Palatinate and became Baden in 1803.
