Horse racing track
Initiator of 1 Horse racing track
was Edouard Bénazet, tenant of the Baden-Badener Casino that wanted to create an attraction for its illustrious guests in the middle of the 19th century. Three major international equestrian events are held annually on the racing course, which was opened in 1858:
- Spring meeting in the second half of May
- Big week at the end of August / beginning of September with the Baden Grand Prix
- Sales & Racing Festival in October
Open-air concerts are occasionally held on the racing course.
Iffezheim barrage
The last one is at Iffezheim 2 Barrage of the Upper Rhine, further downstream the Rhine flows undamped towards the North Sea. The barrage was built between 1974 and 1977, it has two lock chambers with a height difference of 11 m. The weir with its weir fields, each 20 m wide, includes a run-of-river power station.
With the weir, the natural migration of salmon in the Rhine had initially become impossible. Therefore, a fish passage had to be built next to the barrage, which was completed in 2000. A lure current turbine at the entrance to the fish passage generates a current suitable for attracting the fish. You then overcome a canal that is modeled on a torrent, it consists of 37 individual basins lying one behind the other with a water depth of 1.5 m and a total length of 300 m.
