The Innviertel is the western part of Upper Austria, a densely populated, fertile hilly landscape between the Salzach, Inn, Danube and Hausruck (approx. 30 km long, approx. 800 m high low mountain range)

The Innviertel did not come to Austria until 1779 after the War of the Bavarian Succession in the Treaty of Teschen von Kurbaiern.

The area is used intensively for agriculture (arable farming, cattle breeding, fruit growing). Lignite deposits in Hausruck, which are no longer mined due to a lack of profitability.
