nature
On the Kashubian coast there is the Seaside Landscape Park and twelve nature reserves
background
The Kashubian coast is located in northern Poland. It is shaped by the Vistula glacial period through glaciers, rivers (especially the Reda and the Vistula), wind and ocean currents. Moraines and cliffs appear. In contrast, there are no significant tides and therefore no Wadden Sea. The coast is very shallow and is ideal for kitesurfing, especially in the north thanks to the good wind conditions but low waves.
language
In Poland, Polish is the official and national language. One gets along well with English in Poland. Menus and information boards are often also available in German.
getting there
By plane
At Danzig there is the international one Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport(IATA: GDN), which - as of 2019 - is served by Ryanair, Wizzair, EasyJet, Lufthansa and Swiss from many German-speaking airports (Berlin, Bremen, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Cologne-Bonn, Munich, Vienna, Zurich). At Allenstein in Warmia-Masuria there is another international airport, the Olsztyn-Mazury Airport
(IATA: SZY), which can be reached from Dortmund with Wizzair, among others.
By train
The Kashubian coast can be reached by train from Berlin via Gdansk. The central hub is Gdansk Central Station.
In the street
The Kashubian coast can also be reached by car and long-distance bus via motorways (A1) or expressways (S6 and S7) easily and quickly accessible from Szczecin and central Poland via Gdansk.
By boat
The most important ports where ferries to and from Scandinavia and cruise ships dock are:
By bicycle
Two long-distance cycle routes lead through the region: the Baltic Sea Cycle Route as well as the Iron Curtain Europe Cycle Route.
On foot
The European long-distance hiking trail E9 leads through the region.
mobility
The best way to get around the region is by public transport (bus and train). The one also runs along the coast 216 Voivodeship Street from the Gdansk metropolitan area to the Hel Peninsula.
The leads directly along the Gdańsk Bay Baltic Sea Cycle Route (also designated as EuroVelo 10).
Tourist Attractions
activities
The Kashubian coast is particularly inviting for sunbathing and water sports on the beach.
kitchen
Due to the proximity to the open sea but also to inland waters, marine and freshwater fish are the main components of the regional cuisine. Forest fruits, mushrooms and game provide the dense coastal forests of the Kashubia.
nightlife
There is a lot going on almost everywhere in summer. In winter, nightlife is concentrated on the southern part of the coast in the Gdansk metropolitan area.
security
The Baltic coast falls very flat under water on the Kashubian coast and there are hardly any tides, high waves or unpredictable currents. Bathing is therefore usually safe for families with children and swimming accidents are rare. When swimming accidents do occur, excessive alcohol or drug consumption is usually involved. However, if you follow the general bathing rules and do not go into the water when the waves are high, you have little to fear.
climate
On the Kashubian coast there is a transitional climate between maritime and continental climates. The amount of precipitation is lower and the temperature fluctuations higher (warmer summers, colder winters) than on comparable coasts in Western Europe.
