Krabi(Thai: เมือง กระบี่, gkrà-bìi, IPA: [kràʔbìː]) is the capital of eponymous province in Southern Thailand. The province is known for its beaches and bathing islands, but it is also scenic on the mainland. The provincial capital is the starting point for exploring the region and has developed in recent years. It offers an international airport, new hotels and bars and restaurants geared towards tourists. If you only need the beach as a day trip, you can definitely stay in Krabi instead of the well-known beach locations. The prices in restaurants are also below those of the touristically important places such as B. Ao Nang. Travelers who have the time and do not want to reduce the exploration of the "real Thailand" to the beaches should dedicate 1-2 days of their vacation to the city.
background
Krabi In Thai, denotes a certain old sword shape or a rapier. Krabi Krabong is accordingly a martial art related to the Muay thai (Thai boxing), but with weapons. Why the city is called that is not entirely clear, however.
getting there
By plane
The 1 Krabi International Airport(IATA: KBV)ท่าอากาศยาน กระบี่, is about 25 kilometers from the village. Air Asia alone now flies to the city 8 times a day Bangkok off on. Other airlines are Thai Airways Smile, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air and Bangkok Airways. There are other national connections with, among others Chiang Mai. New Gen Airways operates a hub in Krabi and heads for destinations in China. There are other Southeast Asian routes to Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang. Qatar Airways has a direct flight from Doha off on. You can then take a taxi (500 ฿) or the hourly white shuttle bus (90 ฿ per person) to Krabi. Moped taxis are also waiting in front of the terminals. The airport has two terminal buildings. The low-cost airlines are handled in Terminal 2.
By train

Krabi does not have its own train station, which is the closest Surat Thani, from where there are regular bus connections to Krabi (travel time: 2 to 2.5 hours by minivan).
By bus
- 2 Krabi Bus Terminal. Buses use the bus station about 5 km north of the city center. The bus station is quite well organized, clean and has bilingual signage. There is a café, good WiFi and plenty of local transport options (motorcycle taxi, pickups, minivan, taxi).
- There are several buses (day and night trips from Bangkoks southern bus terminal (Tel. 66 2 4351199, 12 hours, 600-900 ฿). For a trip from Krabi to Bangkok there is a choice between the state company BKS or private bus companies. When entering Krabi bus station, the BKS counter is on the left, the private counter on the right. As a destination, you can choose between Bangkok's northern (Mo Chit) or southern bus station (Sai Tai Mai). If you want to travel directly to the north, you should drive to the northern terminal. It's also a little closer to the city center.
- Surat Thani is a hub for traffic on the eastern side of the peninsula. The Pantip Bus Company runs ten times a day to Krabi, the first bus at 4:30 a.m., then every hour until about 4:00 p.m. (150 ฿, 3-3.5 hours). Since it stops more often to let passengers in or out, the minivan is a faster option (180 ฿, 2-2.5 hours). You can see a line of minivans waiting at the bus station. There may be a small rip-off on arrival. The vehicle ends at a small restaurant, where drivers are already waiting for the passengers for about 400 ฿ after Ao Nang to drive (the goal of many guests). But if you walk to the bus station (just keep an eye out for buses), you can use the pickup for 60 ฿.
- The airport of Phuket Has some bus connections to Krabi Airport. There are also hourly minibuses from Phuket's main bus station to Krabi Town (120 ฿).
- Has yai is over 5 hours away and also connected to Krabi by minibus (250 ฿). The cars stop where you want them to.
- Ao Nang is connected via Songthaew. Stops are the bus station and 7-Eleven on Maharaj Rd. You drive via Klong Jilard, Sai Tai, Ao Nang Junction Village and Noppharat Thara Beach. (60 ฿ to 6 p.m., 80 ฿ 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.). They run every 10 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes after 6:00 p.m.
By boat
The city has boat connections to the island world to the south. Short distances such as Railay are covered by longtail boats. However, there are several landing stages. This must be observed for the onward journey. Some boat connections also lead to the neighboring one Ao Nang, even if it's only half an hour's drive, you should consider this in your travel planning and be sure to ask when booking a ticket to or from Krabi.
When departing from Krabi, the ticket price usually includes hotel pick-up.
- 4 Klong Jilad Pier (southwest of the city center). Here the boats go after Ko Phi Phi (400 ฿). There is a taxi counter at the pier (Krabi Town: 150 ฿; Krabi Airport: 350 ฿).
- Ao Nang: There is a connection after Ko Lanta and Ko Phi Phi.

The city center is relatively compact and can easily be explored on foot. There are various pickup lines that connect the center with the surrounding area during the day. Individual lines also have a uniform color for the pickups (e.g. brown for the route to the Tiger Cave Temple). A trip shouldn't cost more than 50 baht for 30 km. The route is also marked on the pickup. For some lines, however, only in Thai.
You can also rent small motorbikes in Krabi without any problems, the price for a day is usually 250 baht.
