The Vietnamese province Lào Cai is in the far north of the country on the border to China.

In addition to the independent city Lào Cai the province is divided into ten further districts: Bắc Hà, Bảo Thắng, Bảo Yen, Bát Xát, Mường Khương, Sa Pa, Si Ma Cai and Văn Bàn.
