Lana (Italian too Lana) is a place in South-Tirol. The apple village is also a wine-growing place, the entrance gate to the Ultental, Passion Play venue and the seventh largest community in South Tyrol.

The place Lana itself consists of Upper, Middle and Lower Lana. The factions of Lana are Pawigl, Völlan, Ackpfeif.

Lana is the largest fruit-growing community in South Tyrol and produces around 1% of the entire EU production of apples. In addition, the place is also an important location for trade and industry (Lana industrial zone).

  • 1 old parish church of the Assumption S. Maria Assunta, in Niederlana from 1492 with the Schnatterpeck Altar: the 14 meter high late Gothic winged altar is the largest in Tyrol and one of the largest Gothic altars at all. Other important sights in the church are the sandstone pulpit, triumphal arch crucifix and stained glass in the choir windows;
  • 2 Parish Church of the Holy Cross (Sisters of the Teutonic Order); Erzherzog-Eugen-Strasse 1, Via Arciduca Eugenio, 39011 Lana; with the second largest bell in South Tyrol (2.11 m diameter and 6248 kg weight), built from 1938-1950 in the style of an early Christian basilica according to plans by the Stuttgart architect Otto Lindner; The spherical roof of the church is popularly known as the Lananer apple.

Hiking trails

  • The Brandis Waalweg from Oberlana to Niederlana has a length of 3.5 km. The starting point is 4 Gampenstrasse car park, go about 500 m up the street to the 5 Waalweg starts on the left. There is no open waterway, the water is transported in an underground pipe, so the path is so wide that there is no problem for wheelchairs and prams. The path runs without incline between deciduous forest and orchards, past the Lanegg monastery and the chapel of St. Margaret and offers good views of Lana. The W peg ends in Niederlana on 7 Brandisbach waterfall of the Brandisbach. The Waalrast restaurant (see below), on whose terrace the path runs, is ideal. You can either go back the same way, or past old courtyards and other buildings worth seeing via Brandisweg, Schnatterpeckstraße, Kirchweg, St. Margarethenweg, Kapuzinerstraße and back down the pedestrian zone. In front of the waterfall, a short circular path with an altitude of approx. 200 meters leads off to the right, it leads uphill towards Völlan to the 6 Weather cross. Return via path no. 1 (Niederlana-Völlan) to Waalweg above the South Tyrolean fruit growing museum.
  • The Marlinger Waalweg At around 12 km, it is one of the longest Waalwege in South Tyrol. In the 8 Etsch barrage near Töll the Marlinger Waalweg begins. After a short time, the first stop comes, directly on the Waalweg 1 Gasthaus Schönblick with a terrace and a good view of Merano. A few hundred meters further on it says 1 Hotel Residence Aqualis the next stop available. Immediately afterwards you run on 2 Gentian grill and 2 Gasthof Waldschenke past. After a few meters there is the 3 Waalerhütte Waalerhütte an impression of the simple life of the Waalers, who had to maintain the Waal and monitor and control the fair water distribution among the farmers. The next possible rest option is at 4 Waalheim Inn reached. The path meets Lebenbergstrasse, there is one there 7 Lebenbergstrasse car park directly on the Waalweg, a trip away from the Waalweg around the castle is also possible 9 Lebenberg Castle (10 minutes easy) to visit, or at 3 Buschenschank Haidenhof (15 minutes one way) to stop off. Follow the Waalweg after a few meters 4 Traudi's snack and shortly afterwards 50 meters off the path of the 5 Eggbauer inn. The next possible stop is this 6 Run pub and after a short stretch of forest you reach the 1 Waal kiosk with souvenirs and other souvenirs. At Oberlana 8 End of the Marlinger Waalweg The path ends in Raffeinweg (Via Raffein). The road leads down towards Tscherms. If you go up the street and go down after 100 m left again you come to the 7 Buschenschank Oberbrunn a last stop. The steep Aichberg nature trail down leads to the bus station and towards Lana center.
    • From the Lana bus station Bus 211 runs every half hour to Merano, from the train station you can take line 212 9 Stop 4 Novemberstraße, bus 212 (Via IV Novembre) continue to 10 Bus terminus at Forst next to the brewery. On the opposite side of the street, Nörder Straße (Via Tramontana) leads upwards, then following the signs on the right, after a railway underpass, you come to the Marlinger Waalweg and can easily walk back to the bus station in Lana.
  • The Chestnut adventure trail in Völlan is approx. 2 km long, easily accessible and level. It starts at the large wooden sculpture of a chestnut hedgehog and leads past 10 adventure elements.
  • The Falschauerschlucht is about 3 km away from the center of Lana
  • The wildly romantic one Gaul Gorge can be reached from Oberlana in approx. 1 hour.

Buschenschänke

At Buschenschänken you have to pay attention to the opening times, as they are only open seasonally. When hiking you should call in advance so as not to experience disappointment.
