Lemgo - Lemgo

Lemgo

Lemgo is a Hanseatic city in North Rhine-Westphalia in the middle between the cities Minden in the North, Bielefeld in the west and Paderborn in the south. From 1190, Lemgo was planned by Bernhard II zur Lippe. Merchants quickly settled a little further to the east at the intersection of two important trade routes, which led the city to considerable prosperity. Flax cultivation and the textile industry in particular made Lemgo rich in the Middle Ages, which is why the blue flax flower still adorns the city's coat of arms today. As early as the middle of the 13th century, craftsmen mainly moved to the south of the old town, so that the new town emerged. Lemgo is a university town.
