The Leukental corresponds essentially to the Austrian planning association Leukental, which is heavily influenced by tourism, of the municipalities from Jochberg to Kirchdorf along the Kitzbüheler Ache. In addition to tourism, agriculture and manufacturing are also of economic importance here.

In terms of topography, the region is characterized by the here quite wide valley landscapes, the mountains of the region are the Kitzbühel Alps and the one to the west Kaiser Mountains.

Kitzbüheler Ache

The Kitzbüheler Ache drains the easternmost part of North Tyrol and has several names along its course: From the source south of the Pass Thurn (1274 m) to Kitzbühel it is the Jochberger Ache, from Kitzbühel to St. Johann in Tirol the Kitzbüheler Ache At the confluence of the Fieberbrunner Ache near St. Johann in Tirol, the river is the Große Ache, also the Großache. From the Bavarian border on Engapss, the river is the Tiroler Ache, it then flows through the Achental in Upper Bavaria Chiemgau Alps and ends at Overseas in the Chiemsee.
