There are numerous historical testimonies relating to the past of Luco dei Marsi, ranging from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, in particular those concerning the early Iron Age with the remains of the "ocres" fortified centers present in the locality of Petogna and on the heights of Mount Penna. This is the acropolis of the subsequent Italic-Roman city of Anxa-Angitia. The village probably hosted the slaves involved in the construction of the Fucino emissary, wanted by the Roman emperor Claudius to drain the lake. During the Middle Ages, Luco was included in the fiefs of the d'Avalos, and then passed to the Colonna. It suffered severe damage due to the earthquake of Avezzano of 13 January 1915.
