Geographical notes

Monte Baldo is characterized by a remarkable geographical individuality. It consists of a ridge parallel to the Lake Garda which stretches for 40 km, between the lake to the west and the Vallagarina at East. To the south the ridge is bounded by the plain of Goat cheese and north from Loppio valley. Mount Baldo reaches its maximum height at 2218 m at the top of Valdritta, and its minimum height at 65 m on Lake Garda.

Flora and fauna

Monte Baldo is also called the garden of Europe because of the great floristic heritage. Thanks to its very varied morphological characteristics it has various climatic zones, in particular there are the Mediterranean belt (up to 700 m), the mountain belt (from 700 m to 1500 m), the boreal belt (from 1500 m to 2000 m) and the Alpine belt (from 2000 m). Each of these bands has a diversified vegetation.

The Monte Baldo massif is characterized by a great variety of wildlife, due to the presence of man, however, the great variety is not supported by the quantity of individuals per single species.

When to go

Mount Baldo has a climate with different characteristics depending on the location and altitude, moreover the summer has a climate closer to the pre-alpine - subalpine one, while the winter a more typically alpine climate, with condensed precipitation in winter and spring. The side on Lake Garda sees higher average temperatures than the side of Vallagarina, despite the similar height, thanks to the influence of the lake, whose hot air rises through the valleys; on the lake coast the average temperature is 13 ° C, while in Vallagarina the temperatures drop by a few degrees. At 1000 m the average temperature is 9 ° C, and at 2000 m it drops to 2 ° C.
