Geographical notes
Encased between the reliefs of Monte Baldo he was born in Monte Altissimo of Nago (2078 meters), of the Colma di Vignola (1606 meters) and of Old (1540 meters), constitutes an atypical portion of territory, for climate and morphology, compared to a context Trentino determined by morphological and climatic conditions of a typically alpine character. It is part of the district of Vallagarina and is 9 km from He died, 19 from Riva del Garda, 19 from Avio, 16 from Rovereto, 44 from Trento.
Background
It takes its name from its shape which recalls that of a basin (brenta in Trentino dialect). It has pre-medieval origins and an ancient and interesting history. It seems to have been founded by the Brenti, a barbarian people descended from the north between the third and fourth centuries AD. together with the Pannoni. Originally it was a barbarian and then Roman fortified town, in fact in Doset, a locality near the current cemetery, Roman objects and coins from the 4th and 5th centuries AD were found in some excavations It is commonly defined as a plateau, even if more than a plateau it is a succession of large morainic terraces open like a fan around the marked incision of the Sorna valley.
How to orient yourself
Brentonico has four districts, each marked by precise geographical boundaries. The district of Fountain to the north, bordering the district of Lera (now the seat of the Municipality). Facing south, in the direction of Verona, we find the district of Vigo, while to the west, towards the Lake Garda, the massive stone houses of the district of Fontechel. The art of the stonemason made the Brentonico plateau famous. The numerous quarries surrounding the town of Castione, now closed and transformed into a sort of open-air museum, provided for centuries the marble for the altars and furnishings of the churches of the Tre Venezie and the Tyrol.
Neighborhoods
Its municipal territory also includes the towns of Castione, Cazzano, Corné, Crosano, Festa, Fontechel, Polsa, Prada, Saccone, San Giacomo, San Valentino and Sorne.

What see
- Church of San Rocco. An interesting baroque example, it was built by the inhabitants of the districts of Lera and Fontana as a votive sign for having spared the town from the plague that struck the Trentino in the first quarter of the seventeenth century. Its altars all in local marble and the bell tower are the work of Teodoro Benedetti di Castione (1768).
- Archpriest Church of Saints Peter and Paul (in the district of Vigo). Rich in six altars, the church conceals the crypt of San Giovanni, testimony of a primitive cult building. The quadrangular plan and the entrance through the trap door of the crypt refer to the Romanesque style of the 10th century. The walls are decorated with frescoes, recently restored. Inside the church there is the oldest organ of Trentino, dating from the eighteenth century.
- Center area. The center of Brentonico, with its medieval houses, recalls atmospheres of other times. Like the portals of Baisi house, adorned with the murals of the Milanese painter Casari; of Ballista house, with the eighteenth-century mullioned windows; of Bais house, a former cured meat factory with a stone loggia from the late eighteenth century, and by Longhi house, built with Baroque taste.
- 1 Palù Park. Walkers can spend quiet moments in the shade of the centuries-old poplars of the Palù park, a small wood in the center of the town. In the park Maria Bortolotti da Pilcante was executed in the early eighteenth century, accused of practicing witchcraft.
- 2 Fossil Museum of Monte Baldo, Via Mantova, 4 (in Palazzo Baisi), ☎ 39 0464 395059.
- 3 Botanical Garden, via mantua 4 (Baisi Palace).
