The community consists of the city of Nürtingen and the incorporated towns of Oberensingen, Hardt, Zizishausen, Neckarhausen, Raidwangen and Reudern, which are now part of the city.
The old town of Nürtingen is located on a former mountain of the Neckar. After the city fire in 1750, the city was rebuilt in the baroque style.

There are many hiking opportunities. To Beuren to the nightmare for example.
Here is just a suggestion for a 16km long circular hike from Grötzingen to Nürtingen:
- Starting point at the Grötzingen-Ortsmitte bus stop, we go to the war memorial, then the footpath "Jägerstraße" to
- Cemetery (alternative starting point for motorists) and continue on the "Höhenweg" to the historical signpost towards Esslingen
- then we follow the old Poststrasse, which now leads over meadows, until shortly before Wolfschlugen
- at km 4 we turn south and walk towards the Jägerstand on Benzberg, then left to the Föllbachsteg
- on the Föllbach a very beautiful forest route leads us to Ulrichstein (km 6)
- then we cross it Aich and go east to Oberensingen
- in Oberensingen we come to the Roman estate, the Villa Rustica past
- after 10 kilometers we can stop in Nürtingen in the beer garden
- back it goes over the Galgenberg (view of the Alb) and the Open air stage to Grötzingen
