Odenthal lies on the western edge of the Bergisches Landes at the gates of the neighboring cities Cologne and Leverkusen in North Rhine-Westphalia. Due to its location in the Dhünntal, which slowly rises from the Rhine valley, Odenthal is also known as the Gateway to the Bergisches Land designated. 1 Altenberg Cathedral (Bergischer Dom), Eugen-Heinen-Platz 4 D-51519 Odenthal. 
The current high-Gothic building of the Altenberg Cathedral was started in 1255 and replaces the Romanesque predecessor of the abbey church. The interior of the cathedral captivates with the graceful simplicity of the Cistercian architecture. Particularly worth seeing is the monumental west window measuring 18 meters by 8 meters with its colorful representation of the heavenly Jerusalem, which is the largest Gothic leaded glass window north of the Alps. Also worth seeing is the burial place of the Counts and Dukes of Berg in the Duke's Choir. The Klais organ with its 89 registers, which was built in 1980, is also worth hearing and seeing.
