Pescasseroli is a city of Marsica, subregion ofAbruzzo.
To know
The town is considered the capital of National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. Here is the central administrative office of the park authority. An important ski resort is located on the nearby Monte delle Vitelle (1966 meters above sea level). In the Middle Ages, the pastoral path of transhumance developed from the Abruzzo mountains to the Tavoliere delle Puglie, along the Pescasseroli sheep track.Candle, the third longest in southern Italy, already existing in the imperial era. Here was born in 1866 Benedetto Croce, a well-known Italian philosopher, historian, politician, literary critic and writer.
Geographical notes
The town located in the heart of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park is located in a basin at an altitude of 1167 meters above sea level surrounded by the Marsicani Mountains, east of the Apennine watershed. Mark along with Opi the border of the Marsica with the Alto Sangro and the Cinque Miglia plateau.
When to go
Pescasseroli is one of the most popular mountain destinations in Abruzzo, a summer and winter vacation spot. Pescasseroli can be reached from Marsica fucense (exit of Pescina of the A25 motorway) and from the lower Sangro through the state road 83 Marsicana which crosses the Abruzzo national park. Secondary logins come from Cocullo (exit of the A25 motorway) through the Sannite state road 479 passing through the Valle del Sagittario e Scanno-Passo Godi, from Ortona dei Marsi is Bisegna through the provincial road 17 and from the Lazio region through the Forca d'Acero pass and the homonymous state road 509.

From the A25 highway Rome-Torano-Pescara exit at Pescina and take the state road 83 Marsicana which crosses the city center until you reach Opi and the other localities of the national park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise.

The woods, located in the localities of Val Cervara, Selva Moricento, Coppo del Principe, Coppo del Morto, Cacciagrande and Valle Jancino (Val Fondillo), fall within the protected area of the national park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise in the municipalities of Lecce in the Marsi, Opi, Pescasseroli and Villavallelonga. They are considered among the most important old forests in the Northern Hemisphere. Recognized as a World Heritage Site in 2017 UNESCO with plants over 500 years old it is populated by protected animals such as the Marsican brown bear, the Apennine wolf, the chamois.

The conference room often hosts conferences and lectures on environmental issues and the protection of local fauna and flora. Art exhibitions embellish the rooms. In the visitor center there is also the wildlife park, where some of the typical animals of the park live under protection and the Apennine garden which is home to variegated and colorful plant species.

Palazzo Sipari, a house-museum, was built in 1839 in place of the palace of the Massa barons, former feudal lords of the place. The building houses the headquarters of the Foundation named after Erminio Sipari, deputy, naturalist and environmentalist, as well as founder of the Park. Here, on February 25, 1866, the well-known philosopher Benedetto Croce was born.
