Pfinzgau - Pfinzgau

The Pfinzgau is a historical landscape southeast of Karlsruhe. The soil, which is mostly covered with loess, is hilly, landscaped and partly wooded.

The name Pfinzgau derives from the Pfinz, which is in the area of Pfinzquellen arises. At Durlach it reaches the Rhine plain and finally flows into it Dettenheim in the Rhine. The Pfinzgau is generally understood to be the area that is drained by the Pfinz. The areas in the Rhine valley are not counted. Often the terms Pfinzgau and Alb-Pfinz-Plateau equated.

Thus, the term Pfinzgau means an area along a line between Karlsruhe and Pforzheim between the southern Kraichgau and the Northern Black Forest.
