Poprad (German name: German village) is a city at the foot of the High Tatras in the Eastern Slovakia.
background
Poprad is also the name of a river that has its source in several streams in the Slovak Tatras. Then it flows through the city of the same name and flows through the Zips before joining Piwniczna passes the Polish-Slovak border. In Poland it flows through the lower ones Beskydy Mountains in a picturesque breakthrough. The spa towns of Piwniczna, Krynica and Muszyna can be found on its banks. The Poprad is suitable for kayaking, especially when breaking through the Beskids. Raft trips are offered through the breakthroughs. The Poprad flows into Lesser Poland in the Dunajecwho will later be included in the Vistula flows.
The freight car manufacturer Tatravagónka is located in Poprad.

The 1 Poprad-Tatry Airport(IATA: DID) is located in the west of the city. Seasonal charter flights are mainly offered there in winter. The only year-round line connection is with the cheap line Wizz Air from / to London. There are no direct connections from German-speaking countries. From the airport Košicewhere there are more line connections, it is 120 km to Poprad.

By train
At the 2 Poprad-Tatry railway station Intercity trains stop along the route several times a day Bratislava–Košice, which takes four hours from Bratislava and 1:10 hours from Košice. Express trains run the same route every two hours. You need 4:40 hours from Bratislava, 1:15 hours from Košice. From Košice there are also slower regional trains that take 1:50 hours.
It stops once a day LEO ExpressPrague–Ostrava–Žilina–Prešov or vice versa in Poprad. The journey from Prague takes a good 6½ hours, tickets are available from € 17.40 each way; from Prešov 1:10 hours (from € 4).
Of Vienna there is a continuous night train (Euronight) to Poprad. During the day there are connections with a change in Bratislava, which take around 5-6 hours.
Local trains connect Poprad every hour Kežmarok (25 minutes), every two hours with Stará Ľubovňa (1:10 hours)
By bus
Long-distance buses of society Slivtour drive several times a day from Bratislava (6–7 hours), Nitra (4: 15–5 hours), Banská Bystrica (2: 05–2: 20 hours), Bardejov (2: 15–2: 30 hours) and Stará Ľubovňa (1:15 hours) to Poprad and once a day from Stropkov (3:20 hours).
Society's penalties SAD Prešov connect Poprad with Prešov (twice a day; 2 hours) via Levoča (30–40 minutes) and with Bardejov (twice a day; 2–2½ hours)
In the street
Poprad is located directly on the D1 Bratislava – Košice motorway. However, this still has gaps. The 340 km from Bratislava takes between 3½ and four hours. The route via the R1, which is designed as a motorway-like expressway to Banská Bystrica, is shorter in terms of route, but slower. From Košice it is 110 km (just under 1½ hours) to Poprad. From the Polish Nowy Targ (70 km, 1:15 hours) and Nowy Sącz (90 km, 1:40 hours) there are acceptable roads over the mountain passes.

An electrified narrow-gauge railway runs from Poprad ZSSK in the high altitude of the Tatra Mountains (Starý Smokovec, Štrbské Pleso, Tatranská Lomnica).
