What to do

Kanagawa offers a wide range of outdoor activities: hiking, mountaineering, sea kayaking, rock climbing, paragliding and much more.

There are many beautiful excursions that are easily accessible by train, especially with the Odakyū line.

They can be done excursions to Honatsugi, Isehara, Hadano Shibusawa and in the nearby Tanzawa Mountains. The Hakone Mountains also offer many hiking opportunities.

You can do climbing and hiking in Yugawara. There is also a "famous" onsen bath there and some shrines and temples.

The Mount Oyama it also makes for another easy excursion day, accessed from Isehara Station on the Odakyu Odawara Line. A bus connects Isehara station at the foot of a cable car near the Oyama-dera temple. At the top of the cable car the path begins to the top of the mountain; it takes about 1.5 hours for the average hiker. At the top, you can have a view of the coastal cities and the ocean, other mountains are Tanzawa and the Mount Fuji on a good day. The Ōyama-afuri shrine is also located at the top.

If you like the beaches, Enoshima is the most popular and gets very busy in the summer. Windsurfing is a very popular activity because the waves are rarely big enough for surfing due to the surrounding landmass. Enoshima itself is the island right next to the beach and they are connected by a 600-meter bridge. There is a tower at the top of the island, where you can have a view of Mount Fuji, the ocean, Oshima, and the Shonan coast (the extension of Kanagawa's beaches). West of Enoshima across the Katase River is Chigasaki Beach, which is also very popular. There is a large "C" symbol for Chigasaki which is a popular place to take a photo. In August, there is a fireworks festival.
