Putbus, the White City, is a city on the island to reprimand. As a planned city in the classical style with numerous palace-like buildings, it has retained a peculiar charm despite being neglected during the GDR era. The large castle park with fallow deer and numerous botanically valuable trees is well worth seeing. Due to the Second World War, the castle was neglected and later demolished.

Putbus is the youngest town on the island of Rügen and, with the Lauterbach district, the oldest seaside resort on the island and in Pomerania. The city has been a state-approved resort since 1997. The city was founded in 1810 by Wilhelm Malte I, Prince of Putbus. He had his hometown expanded as a planned city in the classical style so that the city ensemble fit in with the palace and park. The city complex is still largely preserved today. The name derives from the white painted houses of the Rügen prince's residence White city here. But Putbus will too Rose city called because Malte I. linked the purchase of the houses with the obligation to always plant rose bushes in front of the houses, which is still accepted today. The district of Lauterbach, which has around 500 inhabitants, has a very beautiful fishing and sailing port. Putbus also includes the island of Vilm in the Greifswalder Bodden, 2.5 km from Rügen. In 2019 there were 49,753 guests with 216,584 overnight stays in Putbus (Source: Putbus spa administration).

The circus is a spacious, circular square framed by 15 white classical buildings. Prince Wilhelm Malte I. zu Putbus had the circus built based on the model of the "Circus" in the English seaside resort of Bath as well as French facilities. Originally, according to the prince, all houses should be provided with rose bushes.
- 1 Pedagogy. The pedagogy on the corner of Alleestraße was also founded by Prince Wilhelm Malte I. zu Putbus. It was a teaching institution and is now the largest building on the square. After various uses, the Parkhotel Putbus is now located in the building.
- 2 obelisk. In the middle of the green area, a 19 m high stone obelisk with an inscription and a princely crown marks the center of the square. Eight paths converge to this point in a star shape. These paths are lined with magnificent globular oaks.
Marketplace
- 1 Residenztheater, Markt 13, 18581 Putbus. The Putbus theater is a historic theater that is also worth seeing inside. The princely theater was built from 1819 to 1820 as a summer theater. The main front of the theater deliberately faced the castle. Despite numerous renovations, a lot of the old building fabric has been preserved, the exterior and the spatial structures within the house have remained unchanged. Today the Putbus theater is the most beautiful and oldest continuously played theater in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
- 3 town hall. a simple classical building around 1825.
- 4 War memorial. In the middle of the market there is a war memorial from 1885.

- 8 mausoleum of the zu Putbus family, neo-Gothic building from the 19th century in the castle park

Lauterbach district
- 10 Goor forest area. The Goor is a seven-hectare forest area with predominantly red beech and English oak and is part of the Goor-Muglitz nature reserve. There are at least seven barrows in the area. There are walking and hiking trails through the forest, a circular path is laid out as a path of leisure and knowledge.
- Bathhouse. Prince Wilhelm Malte I. zu Putbus had the splendid classicist bathhouse Goor built right next to the Goor forest area. The facade of the former Friedrich-Wilhelm-Bad is characterized by a monumental columned hall with 18 white columns. In the course of time, the current Goor bathhouse has been rebuilt several times, most recently in 2007.
- After 1945, a small memorial was set up within sight of the bathhouse, bearing Julius Fučík's saying “People, I loved you, be vigilant” on a concrete obelisk. A bronze plaque attached to the foot commemorates the victims of fascism, in particular the prisoners of the Stutthof concentration camp are mentioned, who were murdered in April / early May 1945 after the forced evacuation on the Greifswalder Bodden and in the area around Lauterbach.

- 11 Putbus Castle Church (possibly), Alleestraße 34, 18581 Putbus (in the castle park). In the years 1891/92 the Kursalon in the park was transformed into a church. The upper galleries were removed and their windows moved inwards, the open arcades to the dance hall were provided with windows. A three-aisled church interior was created. The church was consecrated on the day of the Reformation in 1892. The castle church differs from the brick churches typical of the island. It forms an impressive ensemble with the classicist buildings in the park and in the adjacent streets.
- 12 Maria Magdalena Church in Vilmnitz (possibly), Alte Bäderstraße 2, 18581 Putbus OT-Vilmnitz. The oldest part of the Vilmnitzer Church is the east choir with the sacristy, which still have clear Romanesque elements. The nave, built in the middle of the 14th century, was renewed in the 15th century. A little later the tower was completed. Of the exhibits, the four large sandstone epitaphs from 1600 in the chancel and the magnificent baroque pulpit from 1708/09 are particularly worth seeing.
- 13 St. Jacobs Church in Kasnevitz (possibly), Dorfstrasse, 18581 Putbus OT-Kasnevitz. Built in the 2nd half of the 14th century, the current church tower was built in 1864.
