Baabe is a small, cozy seaside resort in the southeast of the island to reprimand on the northern edge of the Mönchgut peninsula. It is the seat of the Mönchgut-Granitz office, to which seven other communities belong.

The place was first mentioned in a document as early as 1252. Until the middle of the 19th century, Baabe only consisted of a farm with several Büdner and Häusler jobs. In 1895/96 a simple bathroom with a jetty was built. Baabe has been accommodating bathers since the end of the 19th century. The avenue leading to the Baltic Sea beach, which characterizes the town today, was built between 1920 and 1927. The first small pier was built in 1923, but soon fell victim to the swell. A new, approximately 200 m long pier was built between 1932 and 1934. But it was destroyed by ice in 1942. Today there are only piers in Sellin and Göhren. The beach in Baabe is wide and fine sand and not yet overcrowded even in high season. Active vacationers will find their field of activity here with surfing, kiting or sailing. Baabe shines with its unique location in the middle of protected nature on the Mönchgut peninsula between the Baltic Sea and the Bodden. The resort architecture is not quite as distinctive as in other seaside resorts. Some of the historic houses from the early days as a seaside resort have been lovingly restored in recent years. There are also many thatched houses in the old style. Fortunately, there are hardly any real building sins in Baabe.

The Rügen airfield has a 900 m long asphalt runway and is approved for aircraft up to 5.7 t. It is ideally located in the center of the island for sports and business flyers. It is about 31 km to Baabe.
By train
The Deutsche Bahn offers a journey to with different products Putbus at. From there it continues with the Ruegen bath railway - called the mad roland to 3 Train station in Baabe.
In the street
One drives at Stralsund over the Rügen Bridge on the

The small Protestant village church has very special acoustics. The church was built in 1929/30 on the initiative of the Middelhägen pastor Medenwald. The building shows some typical forms of modernism (expressionism). The peculiar shape is reminiscent of an upturned ship's hull and gives the church its very special atmosphere and its special sound. In summer, the community invites you to concerts and evening events. - The 3 Mönchgut Gate on the northern outskirts marks the dividing line between the main part of Rügen and the southernmost tip of the island, the Mönchgut peninsula.
- 4 Island paradise (Müther building), Am Inselparadies 1, 18586 Baabe. The Inselparadies is a building designed by the famous Rügen master builder and architect Ulrich Müther, which has now been renovated, directly on the beach promenade, next to the spa gardens. It is a light-flooded glass house that removes the boundaries between outside and inside. The open floor plan and the generous glass facade guarantee a magnificent panoramic view of the Baltic Sea. An Italian restaurant welcomes its guests on the upper floor and the associated beach bar on the ground floor.

Practical advice
- Baabe has a long and gently accessible sandy beach. This means that people with reduced mobility also have easy access to the sandy beach. A special beach mobile (cadweazle) is available on the main beach during the main season. Reservation is possible through the Beach chair rental.

- Sellin with its pier can be easily reached on foot after about 3 km via the beach promenade and the Hochuferwanderweg
- Binz is a very popular holiday destination and can be reached by car after about 14 km and also on foot after about 10 km via Sellin and the Hochuferwanderweg.
- To the Granitz Hunting Lodge The Rasende Roland is ideal as far as the Jagdschloss stop (travel time 28 minutes). The access to the castle by car is only limited possible.
- In Sassnitz (about 32 km) invite several fish restaurants and catering ships at the harbor.
- The Jasmund National Park with its chalk cliffs (Königstuhl) is about 37 km away. A shuttle runs from the large Hagen car park to the Königstuhl, which is subject to a fee. Alternatively, there is a nice hike through the beautiful beech forest to the Königstuhl.
- To the Cape Arkona it is about 57 km by car.
- The Hiddensee Island can be reached after about 45 km by car to Schaprode and then a 30-minute ferry ride.
- The Mönchgut peninsula is characterized by a picturesque, slightly undulating landscape (with the 66 m high Zickerberg) of meadows, pastures and rolling hills. It impressively reflects the original character of Rügen. There is also one for this Video from the NDR.
- The white city Putbus, laid out in the classical style with numerous palais-like buildings, residence theater and castle park, can be ideally visited with the Rasender Roland (journey time 63 min.), with the car it takes about 20 minutes for the 17 km.
- From Rügen Airfield you can take sightseeing flights over the island.
