The A9 Pyhrn Autobahn is an Austrian motorway that is important for transit traffic and the one in the Austrian federal states Upper Austria and Styria runs. It leads from the Voralpenkreuz junction south of catfish at the West Highway A1 in extension of the Innkreis Autobahn A8 through the Bosruck tunnel, the valley of the Enns, over the low Schoberpass and the Liesingtal over the Mur-Mürz-Furche and through the Gleinalm tunnel and west of the Styrian capital Graz past. She then crosses the South highway A2 and follows the course of the Mur to the Austrian-Slovenian border, which it is at matchfield crossed. Its continuation forms the slovenian Avtocesta A1.
The motorway is part of the European route 57 and the European route 59.
The length of the motorway from the Voralpenkreuz junction to the border with Slovenia is 230.02 km.
background
The entire length of the Pyhrn Autobahn was opened in 2004. However, the second tunnel tubes of the Bosruck tunnel, the Gleinalm tunnel, the Lainberg tunnel and the Klaus tunnel chain were only put into operation later. The line has been in operation with at least four lanes since December 2019 (six lanes around Graz).
Regions
particularities
Like (almost) all Austrian motorways, the "Pyhrn Autobahn" is also vignette required! However, the route toll is only partially applicable here. A special toll is charged for the Bosruck Tunnel and the Gleinalm Tunnel (in 2020 EUR 15 per one-way route for both tunnels, which is generally paid on site; cheaper with a subscription). You can also only pay the toll for the Bosruck tunnel (EUR 5.50) or the Gleinalm tunnel if only one of them is used. The mileage count (and the counting of the connection points at the same time) begins at the Voralpenkreuz junction and increases to the south.
traffic
The motorway is one of the most heavily frequented Alpine crossings. Traffic jams during vacation times must therefore be expected.
