Geographical notes

Serrenti is located in the historical region of Campidano of Cagliari and borders on Theft, Guasila, Nuraminis, Samassi, Samatzai, Sanluri is Serramanna.

Background

The area was already inhabited in the Nuragic era, due to the presence in the territory of numerous nuraghi ("Bruncu Su Castiu" located on the edge of the SS131, "Monti Mannu", Genna Serrenti "and" Cuccuru Turri "located on the hills north of the common).

Near the present town are the ruins of ancient Roman villages, in the locality of Gutturrosa, Sa Conca Manna and Santus Angius.

During the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Cagliari and was part of the Nuraminis curatoria. At the fall of the Giudicato (1258) it passed under the Pisan dominion and subsequently, around 1355, under the Aragonese one. In the Aragonese and Spanish epochs it divided the fortunes with the other centers of the former curatoria. When Ludovico Bellit was created baron of Monastir in 1519, the town was annexed to the barony. Subsequently (1355) it was granted in fief by the king of Aragon Pietro IV the Ceremonious to Francesco di Valguarnera; in 1436, with the extinction of the family, it passed through the dominion of various feudal families.

In 1736, in the Savoy period, the town was under the lordship of the Simon and Ricca di Castelvecchio, to whom it was redeemed in 1839 with the suppression of the feudal system, for which it became a municipality administered by a mayor and a municipal council.
