Geographical notes

Nuraminis is located in the historical region of Campidano of Cagliari and borders on Monastir, Samatzai, Serramanna, Serrenti, Ussana is Villasor.

Background

The presence of man in the area dates back to the pre-Nuragic and Nuragic periods due to the presence of some archaeological evidence. The area was also inhabited in Roman times, due to the discovery of the remains of columns and coins of the time.

In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Cagliari, in the curatoria of the same name, of which it was the capital. At the fall of the Giudicato (1258), after a brief period of Pisan domination, it passed under the Aragonese dominion. When Ludovico Bellit was created baron of Monastir in 1519, Nuraminis was annexed to the barony. Subsequently (1355) it was granted in fief by the king of Aragon Pietro IV the Ceremonious to Francesco di Valguarnera; in 1436 with the extinction of the last descendant, it passed through the domain of various families of feudal lords: the de Besora, the Bertran, the Capdevilla, the Gualbes, the Brondo and the Bon Crespi, to whom it was redeemed in 1839 with the suppression of the feudal system.

However, during the 18th century Nuraminis resumed growth and noteworthy were the constitution of the granatico mountain and the Communal Council.

In the second half of the nineteenth century, thanks also to its healthy position, a period of prosperity began, in which some families moved, as in the case of the noble Vaquer family of Villasor who began to reside there following the marriage of the noble knight Don Francesco Vaquer with Donna Maria Efisia, sister of Archbishop Serci Serra. The Vaquer nobles, of Aragonese origin, integrated their already substantial land ownership of Villasor into Nuraminis with the purchase of an important orchard fund (Sa Tanca Vaquer) after having given to the Campidano and Sardinia illustrious characters, most distinguished during the Risorgimento , thus contributing to the unification of Italy.
