Solztal cycle path - Solztalradweg

The Solztal cycle path leads from Bad Hersfeld on the Fulda to Heimboldshausen on the Werra. The largely (?) Asphalted path runs for the first 12 km on a former railway line. The cycle path is the first in the network of the Hessian railway cycle paths: BahnRadweg HessenThe Hessian long-distance cycle routes R1 and R7 as well as the D-Route 4 also partly run on this cycle route. The Solztalradweg and the R7 form alternative Fulda-Werra connections, the latter being 5 km shorter.

  • By train to Bad Hersfeld train station. The connection to the Solzradweg from the train station was completed in 2009 and re-signposted. So you can now reach the beginning of the cycle path on the old route at the sewage treatment plant / animal shelter near the Fulda bridge without crossing. In the underpass, leave the station on the side facing away from the city (Börnerstrasse).

  • There is parking in Bad Hersfeld. Ideal for access to the cycle path (so far) free parking spaces directly at the train station (east side, Börnerstraße).

  • Near Bad Hersfeld: It is worth seeing former railway bridge over the Fulda, which is part of the way.
  • Gut Oberode : Worth seeing building from 1843, beer garden, rest area. Here the northern connection to the R1 cycle path branches off via Ludwigsau / Friedlos (signposted)
  • Sorga: Be careful, many locks, several streets cross the cycle path
  • Malkomes: The section about 1 km before Malkomes had to be bypassed so far. In May 2008 the expansion is almost complete.
  • Gift pride: former stop, rest area, beer garden
  • Schenklengsfeld - Place must be crossed without a bike path. More than 1000 years old linden (probably 1120 years old), one of the oldest trees in Germany. The bike path now runs Next the railway line to
  • Ransbach - is already behind the hilltop
→ Here you can Waldhessen R15 on a somewhat flatter path (no descent into the Werra valley) to Wenigentaft and the journey on Ulstertal cycle path continue. You can also start a nice round trip if you drive down into the Werra valley in a little bit. There you follow the Hess in Philippsthal. R7 long-distance cycle path back to the Solztalweg.
