gap is a city in Middle Franconian district Roth, in the Franconian Lake District. As the center of a historically significant hop growing area (Spalter hop country) and the location of the last municipal brewery in Germany, Spalt advertises with the title City of hops and beer.
background
The history of the town of Spalt goes back to the St. Salvator Monastery, which was first mentioned in a document in 810. In 2010 the city's anniversary “1200 years of gap” was celebrated.

getting there
By plane
It takes about 60 minutes to drive to Nuremberg Airport.
By train
The train station is about 8 km away Georgensgmünd on the Nuremberg-Augsburg railway line.
In the street
The gap is almost exactly in the middle between the main road 
and the federal highway 
and is with both of them through the state road L 2223 connected.
By bicycle
A runs through the gap cycle paththat of Reichswald Nuremberg to the Brombachsee leads.

Despite regular bus connections to the surrounding area, the car is the most important means of transport in Spalt.

The former Spalt-Georgensgmünd railway line has been converted into a planetary path for cyclists. From Georgensgmünd, cycle paths continue to follow Roth.
At the Kornhaus (Herrengasse 10) and the local EDEKA branch (Rother Strasse 6) there are e-bike charging stations.

- 1 St. Nicholas.
The former collegiate church of St. Nicholas was built between 1767 and 1771.
- 2 St. Emmeram, At Kirchplatz 1. The parish church of St. Emmeram goes back to the Carolingian monastery of St. Salvator in the 12th century, it has been rebuilt over the centuries, so that today it offers the image of a baroque church.
- 3 Christophorus Church. The Protestant Christophorus Church is a neo-Gothic building made of sandstone.
- 4 Cemetery church. The cemetery church was redesigned in the baroque style between 1715 and 1717.

- 6 Old Town Hall, in the old town hall in Hauptstrasse 27. Today it houses the fire brigade museum.
- 7 Craftsmen's rooms, At the upper gate 12. The craftsmen's rooms show tools and workshop replicas of traditional craft trades.

- 8 town hall. The baroque town hall was built between 1751 and 1756.
- 9 Wernfels Castle. The castle is now used as a youth hostel.
- 10 Kornhaus. Former tithe barn from the first half of the 15th century. The tourist information is located here.
- 11 Upper gate. The gate tower is the tallest of the six remaining fortification towers.
- 12 Tire tower. three-storey fortification tower.
- 13 Shepherd Tower. semicircular and two-storey fortification tower.

- 1 Planet path. Between Georgensgmünd and gap a planetary path on a scale of 1: 1 billion was built as a nature trail The planet path with the sun begins behind the town hall in Georgensgmünd. The route leads on a 7 kilometer long bike path through the Rezat Valley to Spalt, where it ends at the train station with the dwarf planet Pluto, far from the sun.

- 2 Adventure forest Enderndorf. The Enderndorf Adventure Forest is an adventure climbing park for young and old.
- The Spalter hill country tour is a 21 km long hiking trail through the hills and gorges of the northern parish.
Regular events
- Spalt has a lively carnival tradition that begins with the Saumarkt balls. The highlight is the Nonsensical Thursday, the carnival procession in the Großweingarten district, the Rose Monday ball and finally the Spalter carnival procession.
- In July, the open-air theater in the Bürgergarten takes place on 3 weekends Spalter Midsummer Night Games instead of.
- At the end of August the Spalter Saumarkt, the traditional hop plucking festival is celebrated, at which a hop queen is also chosen.
- The Spalter Christmas market is spread over the whole old town, there are stalls in houses, backyards, historical cellars and also in the city brewery.
