Stadtoldendorf is a city in Lower Saxony, and lies in Solling-Vogler Nature Park.

background

Stadtoldendorf is the administrative seat of the Samtgemeinde Eschershausen-Stadoldendorf, to which besides Stadtoldendorf the city itself Eschershausen as well as the communities Arholzen, Deensen, Dielmissen, Eimen, Heinade, Holzen, Lenne, Lüerdissen and Wangelnstedt belong.

Historically, Stadtoldendorf was shaped, among other things, by severe damage during the Thirty Years War, the city was conquered and robbed in 1625 under General Tilly. Stadtoldendorf was a garrison town during the Seven Years' War - and remained so under changing historical-political conditions until 2003, when the Bundeswehr dissolved this location.

Economically, linen weaving and Stadtoldendorf's plasterworks dominated; Due to the gypsum deposits in the region, the latter branch of industry has remained on site to this day.
