Höxter is located on the eastern edge of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, at the confluence of the Nethe into the Weser. The districts are on both sides of the Weser; the Bruchhausen district lies south of the Nethe.

history

Höxter's up-and-coming development in the early 12th century, which is also documented in the new building of the Kilianikirche around 1100, goes with the last spiritual flowering of Corvey Imperial Abbey hand in hand.

The abbots of Corvey, who had risen to the rank of imperial prince, succeeded in establishing their own sovereignty on the property immediately around Corvey. The abbots' principality, which was directly part of the empire, essentially comprised the monastery and City of Höxter and sixteen villages.

As part of the municipal reorganization, the area municipality "Stadt Höxter" was created on January 1st, 1970 from the 11 municipalities of the former office of Höxter-Land, the core city and the municipality of Bruchhausen from the office of Beverungen. At that time, the localities joined together on a voluntary basis in order to bundle their diverse tasks and bring about uniform self-administration. Today the villages belong to Höxter Albaxen, Bödexen, Bosseborn, Brenkhausen, Bruchhausen, Corvey, Fürstenau, Godelheim, Lüchtringen, Lütmarsen, Ottbergen, Ovenhausen and Steels.

The State Garden Show will take place in Höxter in 2023.
