Abbey Church of St. Stephen and Vitus

The abbey church with the oldest preserved westwork in the world from the 9th century and in the Gothic style is consecrated to Saint Stephen and Saint Vitus. The Benediktuskapelle and the Marienkapelle are attached to the nave, the latter is only accessible for silent prayers. Formerly the center of the Christian faith in Northern Europe, the congregation is now one of the smallest in the archbishopric with just under 200 members Paderborn. Service is every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. The grave of Hoffmann von Fallersleben, the poet of the German national anthem, can be found in the small cemetery next to the church.

Corveyer baroque organ

The Corveyer organ with 27 registers, built in 1681 using the elaborate and rare spring-box technique, is one of only seven spring-box organs still in use worldwide. Due to the infestation of lead sugar, the organ is in great need of renovation and functionality is no longer guaranteed; Holes and cracks affect the sound. We are currently looking for donations for the professional renovation of the organ, which cost around 1.2 million euros.

Museum in Corvey Castle

The Höxter-Corvey is dedicated to the 1200 year history of the monastery and castle. From the 9th to the 12th centuries, the Benedictine Abbey of Corvey was considered a spiritual, economic and cultural center within Northern Europe and was an important place of pilgrimage. After the new construction of the abbey church between 1667 and 1674 and the conversion of the complex into a baroque residence, Corvey experienced a change from a prince-bishopric to a princely palace at the beginning of the 19th century. In addition to the permanent exhibition with the topics just mentioned, parts of the museum are also used for changing exhibitions.

Princely library

The Princely Library with 15 halls and 74,000 volumes in German, English and French from the 18th and 19th centuries is one of the most important private libraries in Germany. The library, with a thematic focus on fiction, travel literature and old German linguistics, was looked after from 1860 to 1874 by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben, whose grave can also be found on the castle grounds. In 1987 the Princely Library was included in the "Directory of valuable cultural assets of the Federal Republic of Germany".

Princely salons

The Princely Salons in the west wing of the convent building were used as living quarters by the Duke of Ratibor and his family until the early 1950s, and previously by Landgrave Viktor Amadeus von Hessen Rotenburg. The furnishings have been preserved in the four rooms - yellow (study), blue (with original wallpaper), green (bedroom) and red salon (billiard room) in the style of late classicism and Biedermeier. Up until 1811 the salons housed the Fürstäbtliche Gemäldegalerie with more than 200 oil paintings.
