Stary Sącz(German: Alt Sandez) is a city in the voivodeship Lesser Poland in the Sandezer Basin between Sandets Beskids, Island Beskids, Gorce and Pienines at the confluence of the Dunajec and des Poprad not far from the bigger one Nowy Sącz.

The medieval cityscape has largely been preserved. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1257, when Saint Kinga founded a Poor Clare monastery here. She herself went to this monastery after the death of her husband. 1292 became the nearby Nowy Sącz founded, which overtook the Stary Sącz in the following centuries. In 1358 Stary Sącz was granted town charter. In 1410 the city was sacked by the Hungarians. After the first partition of Poland in 1770/1772, the place became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire. In 1795 a fire ravaged the city. After the First and Second World War, Stary Sącz came back to Poland

The nearest airport is in Krakow (Krakow Airport). You can travel from Krakow by bus, train or car. Out Nowy Targ you can go by bus or car along the Dunajec arrive.
By train
Stary Sącz is connected to the railway network. The 1 railway station is located near the center. The closest major train station is the train station in Nowy Sącz. The railway line leads from Tarnów to the south along the Poprad after Piwniczna-Zdrój, Muszyna-Zdrój and Krynica-Zdrój.
By bus
Regional buses run from Kraków and the nearby towns of Stary Sącz.
