Tyrol is a geographical region in the "heart" of the Alps, which lies in both western Austria and northern Italy. It is made up of North and East Tyrol (the Austrian State of Tyrol) as well as to Italy belonging South-Tirol together.
The state capitals are innsbruck respectively Bolzano. That too Trentino ("Welschtirol") was once part of Tyrol. Sometimes one speaks of the "European region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino".

In Austria:
- Tyrol (state)
- North Tyrol
- Except far - remote area facing Germany, which is only accessible via the Fernpass is connected to the rest of Tyrol.
- Oberland - everything west of Innsbruck, with the exception of the Ausserfern.
- Unterland - is the eastern part; also innsbruck is assigned to the area, but this is disputed.
- East Tyrol
- East Tyrolean Oberland - the area from Lienz to the border with South Tyrol
- Lienz valley floor - the area from Lienz to the border with Carinthia
- Iseltal - the area from Lienz to Matrei
- North Tyrol
In Italy:
- Trentino-South Tyrol (Italian: Trentino-Alto Adige)
- South-Tirol (Italian Alto Adige, Autonomous Province of Bolzano)
- Trentino (formerly German Welschtirol, Autonomous Province Trent)
Localities
The name Tyrol also designates the following localities:
- the community Dorf Tirol in the South Tyrolean Burgrave Office
- a place Tyrol (Brazil) in the Brazilian state of Espirito Santo
