background

Tutzing is one of the oldest settlements on Lake Starnberg and is called Dutcingun in 742 in a deed of gift to the monastery Benediktbeuern first mentioned in a document. The name is traced back to the Tozzi and Tuzzi, the two families belonged to the early Bavarian nobility of the Huosier.

In the Middle Ages until well into modern times, Tutzing was a small farming and fishing village. In 1519 the lord of the castle was granted court justice (lower jurisdiction), the former castle building itself is still referred to as a simple "residential tower" by contemporary witnesses. After being destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, the complex was generously expanded from 1802 to 1816 under Count Friedrich von Vieregg. From 1869 to 1880 the palace was owned by the Stuttgart publisher Eduard von Hallberger and became a meeting place for writers and wealthy citizens. After various changes of ownership, the facility was acquired by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria in 1949 and has since been used as a workplace and conference center.

The beginning of the tourist development is the construction of the railway line from Munich and its opening in 1865. Tutzing becomes one of the most important tourist locations in the Fünfseenland and in the twenties of the last century it is even managed before the neighboring Starnberg to the north.

Other parts of the political community of Tutzing are Deixlfurt, Diemendorf, Kampberg ,monthshausen, Neuseeheim, Obertraubing, Oberzeismering, Rößlberg, Traubing and Unterzeismering.
