Wąchock is a historical place in Poland in the voivodeship Holy Cross. The place is in Heiligkreuzgebirge and is known for its 12th century Cistercian abbey. She lies on the Way of the Cistercians.

background

The monastery was founded in 1179 and equipped with numerous goods. In the 13th century the monastery was sacked three times by Tatars. The reconstruction in the late Romanesque style was preserved until 1270. Gothic and baroque architectural elements were added later. After the Third Partition of Poland in 1795, the place came successively to the Habsburgs, the Duchy of Warsaw and finally to Congress Poland, which was part of the Russian Empire. After the First World War he became Polish again.
