The history of the city of Wernau is still very young: Wernau was created in 1938 through the merger of the town on the banks of the Neckar Pfauhausen t the eastern location Steinbach. After the Second World War, the number of residents rose rapidly due to the immigration of expellees, and the new town of Wernau received city rights in 1968. It got its name in memory of the noble family von Wernau, who owned land in both villages.
