Concern is a place in southern lower saxony part of South Harz.

The place Zorge is a state-approved climatic health resort and houses around 1,000 inhabitants, it is part of the integrated community Walkenried. The place is characterized by the many half-timbered houses that can be found in the center. The river of the same name flows through Zorge and offers beautiful views of the banks.

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1249, when monks from the monastery town Walkenried built an ore smelter in Zorge, which shaped ore mining and smelting operations for several centuries.

In the middle of the 19th century the first steam locomotive was built in the Zorg machine factory, which was for the state railway of the Duchy of Braunschweig - Lüneburg, which was the first to be made in Germany.

By train

You can take the train to the neighboring town Walkenried. From there you can take the 470 bus to Zorge (Kurpark Zorge). The train journey from Göttingen takes approx. 60 minutes, from Erfurt 2 hours. The bus ride takes about 15 minutes.

By bus

Various buses go to the health resort of Zorge. The 470 bus runs from Braunlage via Hohegeiß to Zorge, or from Walkenried to Zorge. From the community of Wieda you first take the 472 to Walkenried and from there take the 470 bus to Zorge.

In the street

If you want to go from the north to Zorge, take the B243 in the direction of Nordhausen / Bad Lauterberg / Herzberg. The B243 connects the cities of Osterode, Herzberg, Bad Lauterberg, Bad Sachsa, Mackenrode and Nordhausen in the southern Harz and thus forms the link between the federal states of Lower Saxony and Thuringia.

The state road L604 connects Bad Sachsa in the south with the B243 and L601 (Walkenried and Zorge).

By bicycle

The Iron Curtain Trail, the EuroVelo 13, comes from the Hochharz through Zorge and further on Ellrich.

Tourist Attractions

Local history museum and bell tower

The Zorge local history museum is located in the Zacharias Koch House, where the Tourist information for the municipality of Walkenried is to be found. The history of the community is exhibited here on two floors.

Best known in Zorge is probably the smallest Harz spirits manufactory, the Hammerschmiede spirits manufacture. Here you can learn everything about the production techniques of the still and try liqueurs and the Harz whiskey "Glen Els".

The Zorge spa gardens with its popular treading pool, which is supposed to get the circulation going again by taking strong steps in the cold water, is another small attraction that Zorge has to offer. In the spa park you can also relax, go for a walk or have a look at the "show hut" that the Zorge local history museum has exhibited in the spa park, where some exhibits relating to the theme of railways are shown.

From the climatic health resort of Zorge you can ideally go on a hiking tour. In the Harz there is also special fun with the Harz hiking pin, which can be purchased in gold, silver or bronze. Packed with the hiking pass, you get a stamp in your hiking pass every time you pass a stamp. The goal is of course to get the pass full, and finally to get the Harzer hiking pin.

There are a total of 222 stamping points, eleven of which were named as so-called lucky places. The horse in Zorge is one of them, which in 2013 was also awarded the most beautiful stamp of the Harz hiking pin.

The solar heated Zorge forest swimming pool is one of the most beautiful swimming pools in the Harz Mountains and has three pools and a large lawn for sunbathing.

Motorcycling

The motorcycle day tour "West Harz" is quite a winding route and starts at the Innerste reservoir and takes around 4.5 hours. During this tour, a side trip can be made about Braunlage, Hohengeiß, Zorge and Again be made. The tour has a length of 250 km.
