Again is a place in southern lower saxony part of South Harz.

The community of Wieda im South Harz is north of Bad Sachsa in the Harz Nature Park and is part of the Samtgemeinde Walkenried. Wieda is characterized by high mountain forests, meadow valleys and conifers and surrounded by mountain landscapes: in the northwest the Stöberhai rises at approx. 720 m and thus the highest mountain in the southern Harz, in the north stands the 602 m high first Jagdkopf, in the east with 603 m the the second Jagdkopf and in the southwest the Ravensberg rises to a height of 659 m. A good network of hiking trails shows hikers how to get into nature reserves and admire nature.

The closest airport is the international one Hanover Airport. After Wieda these are approx. 147 KM.

By train

The community of Wieda does not have its own train station, the one in the neighboring town Walkenried however, it can be reached in just 15 minutes by bus 472.

By bus

To Wieda and from Wieda to the surrounding villages you can take the 472 bus. From there you can get on regional trains.

In the street

From Wieda you can take the state road to Bad Sachsa, Concern, Walkenried or after Braunlage drive. From Walkenried you come to the Südharzautobahn A38, which can be reached via the B243. The state road L604 connects Bad Sachsa in the south with the B243 and L601 (Walkenried and Zorge).

The community of Wieda can be reached via bus route 472. The municipality does not have its own train station. The nearest train station is in the neighboring town Walkenried.

  • The Game feeding at "Bahnhof Stöberhai" is a highlight. Foxes, wild boars and roe deer are fed here. Exciting animal observations included!

Events

Once a year the so-called "Spellefest" takes place in Wieda. In addition to Harz specialties such as the traditional "Kniester" dish, there is also a street parade, a supporting program with musical performances, handicrafts, a flea market and the legendary duck race on the Wieda.

The Christmas crib in Wieda Christmas time is another attraction of the community. With the many nativity stations you can look at nativity scenes and their figures on the four Advent weekends, drink punch and even marvel at a living nativity scene.

As in the whole South Harz you can hike wonderfully in Wieda and hike to the surrounding villages. On the many hiking trails that the southern Harz has to offer, you walk through dense forests, especially in Wieda.

Parks

The Kurpark in Wieda is particularly suitable for walking or relaxing. It also contains its own water treading point, which is intended to stimulate the circulation by pedaling quickly and thus moving from warm to cold.

Mountain biking

From Wieda there is a direct connection to the mountain bike route network Volksbank-Arena-Harz.

Two cross-country trails are groomed:

  • Cuckoo trail, 2 km medium-difficult circuit southwest of the town center
  • Südharzloipe, west of the village, a total of almost 50 km long, difficult trail with cross connections between Wieda, Bad Lauterberg and Braunlage through the area east of the Oder dam.

The entire southern Harz is known for its game dishes. Gastronomy and hoteliers make sure that their products also come from the region.

A special Harz dish, which is also served at the Spelle Festival, is the so-called "Kniester", fresh sausage and unpeeled roasted potatoes spiced with and without caraway seeds. In the past, this dish was meant for poor people, today it is a Harz specialty gladly eaten on every occasion.

In Wieda there are only the restaurants and cafés that invite you to go out.

For a more pronounced night life you have to go to the neighboring town Bad Sachsa drive where the 472 bus goes. In Bad Sachsa itself, you can drink cocktails and enjoy other branded spirits in the Chicco Bar. On weekends you can dance there when well-known DJs are playing.

From 3 p.m. you can also have a drink in the music café and the karaoke party bar with relaxed music and enjoy great parties on special occasions / events. In FANNYS you can also go dancing on some Saturdays if the restaurant invites you to the dance event "Dance from 40".
