The Vietnamese province Bà Rịa-Vũng Tau is located in the southeast of the country.

The landscape was once quite swampy, in the mangrove forests of the coast lived Malay pirates who could not be driven away until the beginning of the 19th century.
In the coastal region there are numerous fresh and brackish water lakes, they are used for fish farming. But also on the open sea you can see numerous fishing boats, their shape often reminds of the picturesBoat people"from the time of the Vietnam War.

Mostly Buddhists live in the region, other religious communities are tolerated. There are modern Christian churches in numerous villages in the province; they are often in close proximity to traditionally designed Buddhist temples.
