Bad Schussenried is a mud spa in Upper Swabia. The resort is on the Swabian Baths Road, on the Oberschwäbische Mühlenstraße and especially on the Upper Swabian Baroque Street. The monastery town is characterized by numerous art treasures, an intact landscape and a wide range of leisure activities. The place was first mentioned in 1153. A Premonstratensian monastery was founded in 1183, which lasted until secularization in 1803. Then Schussenried became part of Württemberg. In 1947, Schussenried received city rights, and it has held the title since 1966 bath. In the course of community reform around 1972, the formerly independent communities Otterswang, Steinhausen and Reichenbach were incorporated.

Bad Schussenried is not far from the source of the Schussen. In the last ice age, the northern part of the terminal moraine of the Rhine glacier was here. The area is characterized by moors and peat was extracted here in the last century. During excavations, the remains of Stone Age pile dwelling settlements were discovered.
