Balje is a municipality on the Niederelbe in the district of Stade, in Elbe-Weser triangle.

Balje is a rural community on the southern bank of the Elbe near Stade. The eponymous place belongs to the municipality 53.83089.13321 Balje, the localities 53.82249.08092 Listen, 53.81329.11453 South dike west and 53.81069.15144 South dike east and other small settlements, mostly as small street villages along the dikes. Balje is strongly influenced by water and the construction of dykes due to the Oste, which partially limits the community to the south, the estuary and the Osteteich created by the Eastern Barrier in the west and the Elbe in the north.

In addition to the eastern barrier, the Lower Elbe Natureum on the artificial Osteinsel, the medieval museum village in Hörne and several nature reserves in the moor and marshland on the Elbe are particular tourist attractions of the community.
