Casalpusterlengo is a city of Lombardy.

To know

After Praise is Codogno, is the third most populous municipality in the province.

The name derives from Pusterla, house to which Casalpusterlengo belonged in the 14th century. There is also a second theory which says that the name comes from Casale Pistorus as in Roman times bakery ovens were built.

Background

In the 14th century it belonged to the Pusterla family, who were succeeded by the Lampugnani (1450), the Marquises Castelli (1665-1695) and finally the Trivulzio family. It was the scene of numerous military events in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and at the time of the Napoleonic conquests. Of the ancient castle, built by the Pusterla family, there remains a crenellated tower, with two superimposed bodies, recently restored. The parish church of SS. Martino and Bartolomeo, with a facade restored in the last century, and the church of San Bernardino.

In the Napoleonic period (1809-16) Pizzolano, Vittadone and Zorlesco were aggregated to the municipality of Casalpusterlengo, which became autonomous again with the establishment of the Lombard-Veneto kingdom. Vittadone and Zorlesco were definitively united in 1929.
