What see

  • Jovine Ducal Palace. The old castle, now a stately home, was built in the 13th century. Owned by the Canzano family, in 1809 it was given to the Jovines. It is a compact residential building without towers because it never had military functions.
The building has a rectangular plan with ramparts and an internal courtyard. Above the portal there is the noble coat of arms.
  • 1 Church of San Leonardo, via Chiesa 9. The church was built in the twelfth century, in fact a Byzantine inscription on the façade testifies to it, commemorating the bishop Giambattista Lomellino.
The façade merges with a city gate, with a Gothic arch, and is therefore very narrow: the decorated portal is Renaissance. The bell tower is a tower and rises on a sturdy arch in the street. It features a concert of four bells, two of which are Agnonese.
The interior was handed down in Baroque form, remodeled in the 17th century, with lilac plasters. An eighteenth-century walnut choir with gilding is preserved; on the main altar the Crucifix in green marble stands out.
The church belonged to the Diocese of Guardialfiera, which was later suppressed. At that time the bishop of Guardialfiera Monsignor Battiloro raised the church of San Leonardo in 1775, for a long time Distinguished collegiate church, to the dignity of Co-Cathedral, since it stayed in Castelmauro in the summer and early autumn. This is the reason why the church still preserves the throne, the faldistorio, some mitries and furnishings of the bishops of the suppressed diocese of Guardialfiera.
  • Chapel of St. Nicholas of Bari. Some believe it was the ancient parish church, but there is no certain evidence. It was restored in the second half of the seventeenth century.
  • Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua. Fifteenth-century sacred building with a single nave.
  • 2 Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Salute (Madonna of Health). The construction of the temple was usually indicated around the fifteenth century. Following restoration and expansion works, however, the remains of a much older construction that was dated to around the year 1000 have been discovered. The rooms around the building constituted the monastery that the Capuchin friars erected in 1530.
  • 3 "Giovanni Boccardi" Astronomical Observatory. On the summit of Monte Mauro, at 1042 meters above sea level, the observatory is an excellence among similar astronomical research facilities.
